Mergers and acquisitions (M&As) are a key tool that businesses use to meet organizational objectives and grow. And unfortunately, many times human resources (HR) involvement comes too late in the M&A process, thus resulting in increased costs, unnecessary turnover, miscommunications, corporate culture clashes, and sometimes, even a complete merger failure. 
Join NOVA SHRM on October 6th for a panel discussion on the importance of managing “people issues” in the context of M&As. Our panel will explore ways that HR teams can proactively support the M&A process to enhance business success. Through an exchange of viewpoints, each of our panel members will bring their experience and expertise to help other HR professionals navigate the M&A process and support business goals.

Laura Giangiuli - VP, Human Resources, Calibre


Laura is a Senior Human Resources Professional with more than 15 years of experience managing all aspects of human capital management, security and administration for both for profit and non-profit companies. She holds a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and a SHRM - Senior Certified Professional (SHRM – SCP) certifications. Laura is currently the Vice President, Human Resources at CALIBRE, an employee-owned management consulting and technology solutions company supporting government and industry. In this role, she reports directly to the President & CEO and is a member of the Corporate Leadership Team and advises the Board of Directors and C Suite Executives on matters concerning: Risk Management, Personnel Legal Issues, Federal & State Compliance, Mergers & Acquisitions, Compensation & Benefits, Employee Relations and Morale, Talent Acquisition, Performance Management, Employee Development and Executive Coaching, Executive Management, Conflict Resolution, Cost Control, and Training. Laura has been involved in all stages of merger and acquisition activities at CALIBRE and previous employers. Due to her work with CALIBRE’s largest acquisition in 2015, she was awarded CALIBRE’s Distinguished Service Award for “Taking Care of Our Employees” for the second time in 2016.


Lindsey Reisinger - VP, Human Resources, ECS Federal


Lindsey is the Vice President of Human Resources with ECS Federal. She brings over 12 years’ experience in HR management, with nearly 6 of those in her role with ECS Federal. ECS Federal is a government contractor that has seen significant growth since its founding in 2001 and currently employs over 2,000 people. ECS Federal provides system engineering and information technology services for the U.S. Federal Government agencies. ECS proudly placed 21st on the Washington Post Top Workplaces for 2017. For the fourth year in a row, ECS has been among the top 150 companies who made this list. During her tenure with ECS, Lindsey has been involved with 7 acquisitions, some of which include InfoReliance, iLuMinA Solutions, and Paradigm Technologies. Lindsey holds a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certifications. Lindsey graduated from Randolph-Macon College with a BS in Chemistry.


Michelle Geddes - VP, Human Resources, Preferred Systems Solutions


Michelle Geddes, Vice President Human Resources, Preferred Systems Solutions, $120M provider of Intelligence and Program Management Support to both Defense and Civilian Agencies. PSS aggressively grew by acquisition absorbing 6 small companies over a 3 year period. With more than 25 years human resources management experience Michelle believes a strong focus on strategy and workforce communications is the foundation to success. A Washington DC local, Michelle earned a BBA Finance from Marymount University, MBA Marketing from American University and the SHRM SPHR certification


Donna Paul - Business Services And Outsourcing Managing Director, BDO


Donna Bernardi Paul, has over 25 years of experience in Human Resources with an emphasis in Talent Management and Organizational Development. Melissa Panagides-Busch - MS Senior Director, BDO


Melissa has 20 years of experience and expertise in post merger integration, project management and organizational change management. She is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) who has managed large-scale, complex and challenging projects in a variety of organizational settings. In 2012 she managed an Integration Management Office (IMO) that planned and implemented the post merger integration of two $500M non-profits. The integration portfolio included 80 discrete projects, over 20 cross-functional teams and required significant coordination and change management to address cultural differences and ensure a smooth transition. 78% of the projects in the portfolio were delivered on time and to specifications and Melissa and her team were credited with bringing manageable governance and a practical and professional focus to the work.
Melissa is steeped in project management excellence and teaches project management principles in graduate level management courses. She also specializes in understanding how organizations can create high quality structures and processes that allow teams to innovate and create. She has deep experience in process improvement, functional alignment and the behavioral change necessary for successful transformation. She serves on several non-profit boards.
