Open Positions at Northern VA SHRM

The President-Elect assists the President in overseeing all the activities of the chapter. In the absence of the President, performs all the Presidential responsibilities. Carries out special projects as assigned by the President. Upon request, assists other officers in performing their responsibilities. Attends (and presides over, if necessary) monthly membership and Board of Directors meetings. Participates in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategy planning for the Chapter. Represents the Chapter in the Human Resources community.

  • Minimum time commitment per month: 10-15 hours per month.



Plans the programs for the monthly chapter meetings, including the selection of subjects and speakers; contacts and follows up with speakers; prepares articles about the program for the monthly newsletter, and performs any other duties as may be determined appropriate in support of the program activities of the Chapter.  Coordinates efforts with other Board members and the Vice President, Professional Development to provide the best offerings for the Chapter membership.  Reviews final preparations for meetings to ensure that meetings run smoothly.  Reviews program evaluations for feedback to be used in planning future events.  Represents the Chapter in the Human Resources community. 

  • Minimum time commitment per month:  10 hours.



Plans membership drives, corresponds with prospective members, initiates new member activities, prepares new membership kits, conducts new member orientation sessions, maintains the membership roster, and performs other duties in support of the chapter’s membership activities. Represents the Chapter in the local Human Resources community.

Develops and delivers seminars, workshops and other professional development opportunities for the Chapter membership.  Facilitates meetings with the Board to select topics and speakers for bi-annual seminars and periodic workshops to provide in-depth and timely professional development opportunities for members.  Contacts potential speakers and makes arrangements for selected meetings, including selecting sites and promoting the program.  Ensures programs qualify for desired certification credits. Coordinates event logistics for catering and A/V setup. Provides information regarding workshops and services to the Newsletter Editor and Digital Content Administrator, through written communications and personal contact.  Reviews final preparations for meetings to ensure that programs run smoothly.  Reviews program evaluations for feedback to be used in planning future events.  Represents the Chapter in the Human Resources community.  Attends monthly Board meetings and participates in Chapter activities.

  • Minimum time commitment per month:  5-10 hours.


   Non-Voting Position   

Manages the college outreach efforts and scholarship program. NOVA SHRM has Student Chapter relationships with George Mason University, George Washington University and Marymount University. Build and maintain relationships with professor and student leaders. To assist Chapter members, their children and locally sponsored students from affiliated Chapters with their educational pursuits in the field of Human Resources. Represents the Chapter in the Human Resources community.

  • Minimum time commitment per month: 5 hours.

  • Talent Development (TD) SIG Position Filled

NOVA SHRM is currently recruiting for a co-leader to help lead our Talent Acquisition & Management (TAM) Special Interest Group (SIG), as well as our Talent Development (TD) Special Interest Group (SIG). As a SIG Co-Leader, you will be responsible for planning and hosting bi-monthly events related to the fields of workforce planning, on-boarding, staffing and recruitment. This includes identifying speakers, coordinating event logistics and marketing events. Experience in staffing and/or workforce planning is preferred.
