Open Positions at Northern VA SHRM

NOVA SHRM is currently looking for volunteer Board of Directors in preparation for 2019! Are you seeking a way to get better connected to the HR community, looking for an opportunity to give back, as well as gain valuable skills professionally, then apply for one of the roles listed below and join our team!  

Open Roles Include:



Leads the direction and operations of the Special Interest Groups, which provides meaningful programs complementary to the chapter’s monthly meetings, offering valuable opportunities for participants to network, share best practices, and acquire & develop HR knowledge in their specific area(s) of practice. The NOVA SHRM chapter operates six (6) Special Interest Groups (SIGs), each led by a pair of SIG leaders, along with additional volunteers to support the shared services business model required to deliver 24 events each year to over 700 attendees. The Co-VP is responsible for setting the group’s annual objectives and facilitating activities among the SIG leaders to meet each group’s member needs and interests. This includes overseeing programming content, marketing, administration, data analysis, recruiting & training of volunteers, and responding to member inquiries. Serves as the liaison to the Board to ensure the SIGs are in alignment with the chapter’s mission, goals and/or objectives. In addition, the Co-VP, Special Interest Groups, will participate in recurring Board meetings and support ongoing Board initiatives.  



Oversees and manages the marketing/business development activities of the Chapter. Directs all the marketing activities of the Chapter. Develops and implements an integrated marketing strategy; promote and conduct outreach to the business and human resources community on sponsorship opportunities; publicizes programs, events, and activities through internal Chapter newsletter, website, and other venues to attract sponsorships. Represents the Chapter in the Human Resources community. Minimum time commitment per month: 5-10 hours.  



The Leader, Community Relations monitors and evaluates on a continuing basis local community activities. Plans community events to benefit the community. Manages the chapter outreach efforts in the community. Recommends community services projects to be supported by the Chapter. Makes Chapter members aware of community organizations that would be beneficial to HR professionals or businesses. Provides information to Chapter members about local community organizations through various media outlets. Maintains liaison with local community organizations. Represents the Chapter in the Human Resources community. Minimum time commitment per month: 5 hours.  


SIG Co-Leader: Talent Acquisition & Management (TAM) SIG

NOVA SHRM is currently recruiting for a co-leader to help lead our Talent Acquisition & Management (TAM) Special Interest Group (SIG). As SIG Co-Leader, you will be responsible for planning and hosting quarterly events related to the field of talent acquisition and management. Activities include:  

  • Identifying timely topics for the SIG
  • Finding, interviewing and securing speakers for events
  • Coordinating event logistics including space, refreshments and delivering opening and closing remarks at events
  • Marketing events and promoting the NOVA SHRM organization

Estimated Time Commitment: 10 hours during event month; less during non-event months

This position requires strong organizational and event planning skills; as well as professional presence and communication skills. Experience in talent acquisition and management preferred; public speaking experience is a plus.
